ADAM CALLS FOR ANSWERS ON FORENSICS

Brian Adam MSP for Aberdeen North today wrote to the Chief Executive of the Scottish Police Services Authority calling for answers on the current case to close Aberdeen's police forensics lab. The two held a meeting at the Scottish Parliament last week following Mr. Adam's visit to the Nelson Street forensics facility.

Commenting on the issue, Mr. Adam said:

"I have made it clear in black and white where I stand on this issue. I have visited the Nelson Street unit and as far as I am concerned Aberdeen's forensics lab is a top notch facility with some of the country's finest in their field. I do not currently see that a move to Dundee would be best as has been suggested."

"I have met with the Chief Executive of the SPSA, and have written again to ask for further clarification on this. I have also raised some probing questions on the issue which I hope will unearth the facts that show the value of a forensics centre in Aberdeen."

"It would appear that most of those involved with the laboratory, including the police forces who use its services, back the campaign to keep this unit local. I have echoed their views to the Cabinet Secretary for Justice, and will continue to press for answers on this."
